This indenture made the 8th day of October 1763 between William McDade and wife Elizabeth, of Edgecombe Co. NC and Ephraim Dobson Ponder of the county of Halifax of NC. For the sum of Twenty six pounds thirteen shillings and four pence proc. money paid of Ephraim D. Ponder, 120 acres in Hatcher’s Swamp, this being part of a Lord Granville Grant to Wm. McDade bearing date 4th August 1761. Wm. & Mary McDade have Rightful Power and Lawful Authority to sell this parcel of land.

Persponally appeared before me, Will Fitzgerald one of the Judges of the circuits of the State of Tennessee, John McDade, Mary Womble, Selany Womble, Drucilla Morris, Nancy Womble, Benjamin Womble William Morris and P.G. Womble and acknowledged the foregoing to be their act and deed and that they signed sealed and delivered the same to the grantee for the purposes therin mentioned having first examined Selany Womble, wife of Benjamin Womble and Drucilla Morris wife of William Morris and Nancy Womble wife of P. G. Womble then and each of them separate and apart and privily from their husbands and each every one of them doth acknowledge that they and each of them execute the foregoing conveyances freely and of their own accord without fear or compulsion of their husband and doth now freely and voluntarily ascent to the same. This the 4th day of May 1852. Set the foregoing deed be registered by the Register of Edgecombe Co, State of North Carolina In testimony of which Judge as aforesaid affixed his name and signature the year and day above written. Exps in favour of Robert Ricks=as Adm against William McDade Testes Monday of November 1850 and returnable to Edgecombe county court and to me on the 23rd day of Feby 1852 expose to sale at Public Vender, having advertised the same agreeably to law, one tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county aforesaid, adjoining the lands of Thomas Curl, Jessi Price, & Moses Price, containing by estimation one hundred & 90 acres, at which sale Thomas Curl became the last and highest bidder, in the sum of nine & 25/100 dollars.
