Will of James McDade (One of the three pioneer settlers of Jackson County
in May of 1796.)
I, James McDade, of the county of Jackson in the state of Virginia, being of
sound mind and conscious that it is destined for all men one to dye, have hereby
thought proper to make disposition of such property as it hath pleased God to
bless me with in this world, in the following manner, to wit:
It is my wish and desire and I do hereby devise to my beloved wife Margaret
McDade for and during her natural life, all the Estate that I am in possession
of, both real and personal, and at her death to be equally divided between my
children and my wife Margaret's in equal proportion to each, except to my
daughter, Sally Greathouse, she is not to have but one dollar to be made out of
the property when sold as hereinafter described. I also appoint John Harpold
Executor of this my last will and testament, and that he will after the death of
my wife, Margaret, sell the property then remaining and make distribution as
above mentioned , hereby revoking all other will(s) by me heretofore made.
In witness hereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th day of July
1833.
