McDADE (Turner), Doris Mildred "Dorie"
McDADE (Turner), Doris Mildred "Dorie" - 82, Hantsport, passed away peacefully
on June 7, 2004, in Hants Community Hospital after many years of ill health.
Born at Hants Border, she was the third daughter of the late Tom E. and Rita
(Palmer) Turner, originally Halifax residents. Dorie spent all of her life in
Hantsport. She was a graduate of Hantsport High School and Miss Graham Business
School in Windsor. She worked in the accounting department of Minas Basin Pulp &
Power Co. Ltd., where she met her husband, Garnet McDade. They were married in
September, 1944. Surviving are her husband, Garnet Cranswick McDade; daughter,
Paula Cunningham and son-in-law Douglas Cunningham, Lions Head, Ont.;
granddaughter, Dr. Christy Cunningham, Hamilton, Ont. Also left to mourn are
sister, Ruth Morehouse (Oscar), Victoria, B.C.; brothers, Paul (Phyllis),
Victoria, B.C.; Tom (Leah), Halifax; Harry (Maxine), Hantsport and Richard (Frenie),
Canard, Kings Co.; as well, she will be missed by many nieces and nephews in
Nova Scotia, Ontario, British Columbia and the United States. She was
predeceased by sisters, Norma Longmire and Patricia Schurman, and brother,
Professor Frederick Turner. Cremation has taken place under the direction of
Lohnes~Beazley Funeral Home, Windsor. There will be no visitation. A funeral
service will be held in St. James United Church, Hantsport, Rev. Glennis Smith
officiating (the date as yet to be determined). A private burial will follow. In
lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Hantsport Volunteer Fire
Department, who on a number of occasions came to Dorie's rescue.
