Gratiot County Herald, July 15, 1882:

Joseph T McDaid

DEATH OF J.T. McDAID-It is with regret that we learn of the sad death of Joseph T.
McDaid, a well-known resident of North Star township, his home being one and one-half
miles east of Old Pompeii. He was the victim of sunstroke, being prostrated while at
work haying last Tuesday afternoon, lingering until Wednesday morning when death came
to his relief. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his early and untimely death.
The former is a daughter of the late N. Cunningham of Hamilton, and a sister of Peter
Cunningham of the same township.

Mr. McDaid was an old settler, having become a resident of the county-with his
father's family away back in '54. We should judge him to have been about forty-two
years of age. He was an intelligent, energetic and upright citizen, whose death will be
a source of deep regret in the hearts of hundreds of warm friends. The funeral occurs
this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Union church North Star.
