LENOIR: Rachel Kirby Bell, of Hibriten Mountain Road, died Feb. 12, 2003, at her residence. Born in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Effie McDade Kirby. A member of St. James Episcopal Church, she retired as an executive secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. William F. Bell Jr., two brothers, Jack Kirby and Hunter Kirby, and two sisters, Opal Price and Irene Huss.

Survivors include a son, William F. Bell III of Lenoir; a brother, George W. Kirby of Hudson; a sister, Geneva "Boots" Anderson of Hudson; and a number of other relatives.

The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Ingram Parmley at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home, 522 Wilkesboro Blvd., SE, Lenoir. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery, Hudson. The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
