LENOIR - Ray William McDade, 78, of Legion Road, Hudson, died Jan. 14, 2003,
at Valdese General Hospital in Rutherford College. Born Nov. 25, 1924,  in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Ivey and Murtie Austin  McDade.

A Lutheran, he retired as a truck driver for Bernhardt Industries. A U.S.Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post 392 in Hudson.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene McDade, James McDade, Benjamin McDade and Charles McDade; and a sister, Lucille Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Coffey McDade; a daugther and  son-in-law, Jada and Philip Jones of Hudson; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mae Williams and Sue and Edward Prewit of Valdese; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Marcus Ollis at 2 p.m.  Thursday at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home, 522 Wilkesboro Blvd., SE, Lenoir.

Burial will be in Hickman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Troy Bumgarner,  Skip Downs, Wayne Carlton, Stuart McDade, Joe Setzer and Ellis Hatley. The family will be at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the service.
