J A Hale enlisted in the US Navy in early 1943 at age 16. He was trained as a Navy corpsman (medic) for service with the Marine Corps. J A was killed in action during the invasion of Tarawa island in November of 1943 at age 17. He is buried in the Punchbowl National Cemetery in Honolulu on the island of Owahu, Hawaii. Several family members have visited the grave site.

John Hale married Jaley Ann Morgan on Sept 4, 1879 in a double wedding ceremony with Nathan Hendrichson and Eliza Morgan. Nathan, a nephew of Lourana Page, introduced John and Jaley. After the marriage the couple moved to Truce with his parents.
Sally was born in 1880, an infant son was born in 1881, and Mollie was born in 1883. After Mollie was born the family moved to Eastland Co. to be near the Morgan family, then returned to Jack Co. where the twins were born. The twins were buried in a single coffin next to their infant brother.
The family then moved to Upshire Co. where John Reece was born. John Reese was named after the doctor, Reece Stevens, who saved the mother and baby during a difficult birth. (Mrs Walker J Hale -- 1990) The family then returned to Eastland Co. and rented a place near the
Ballard community (about 4 miles from Nimrod). Vera was born there in 1892.
Later the family moved to the present John Hale farm. Joe Jeff Hale made the following comments about his father:
"John Hale was seriously injured when a horse fell on him. The injury resulted in Dad becoming ill with cancer. He made several trips to Dallas, Texas to see Dr. Dickey in seeking medical attention and treatment. He died on 05 Nov 1903 at the age of 49."
All of the John Hale Family are buried in the Hale-Morgan cemetery, located on the John Hale farm (except for the three infants buried in Jack Co.). John and Jaley were members of the Primitive Baptist Church in Nimrod. -- Kenneth W Hale 1991

Family saying is that Joseph and a group of friends went on a hunting trip, after a successful hunt, he sent everyone home saying that he wanted to hunt himself, that was the last time he was seen alive. Sometime the next year his skeleton was found and he was identified by his clothing and personal possessions.
Joseph moved his family to Mississippi in 1838

on a farm near Truce until 1914 when they moved to Wichita Falls, with the two oldest children, to work for the railroad.
About 1917-18 the family (three children) moved to Chandler, Oklahoma to operate a shoe shop with Oscar, Joe's brother. The partnership broke up and the family moved to Agra, Oklahoma in 1918 where Joe operated a shoe shop and the family operated a cream separator. In 1919 the family moved to Ripley, Oklahoma where they again operated a shoe shop and creamery. Later Joe worked at a refinery in Ripley. In 1927 The family (six children) moved to Seminole, Oklahoma where Joe started work for Sinclair Oil.
In 1930 the family moved to the East Texas oil field (seven children) where Joe continued to work for Sinclair. In the oil field Joe was known as "Stormy" and his oldest son, Otis, was known as "Lightening". The family lived between Troup and Wright City near the Salem School in a community called "Screech Owl Bend". Joe worked for Sinclair Oil for approx. 18 years.
After the death of Jennie in 1943, Joe quit Sinclair and opened a shoe repair shop in Overton, Texas. After the youngest child left home about 1950, Joe moved around a bit, operating shops in Arp, again in Overton, in Ranger, TX, and even in California. The last shop was the "OK Hale" shoe shop in an old service station building in Overton. The building carried the "OK Hale" sign until it
collapsed and was demolished in 1983.
The older boys seemed to consider their father to be a tyrant and seemed to dislike him intensely, even into their adult years and until his death. The other children seem to consider him to have been a stern, honest, hard working father who was somewhat of a busy-body and
gossip, with a sense of humor and personal responsibility.
Joe remarried twice later in his life. The first ended in divorce. He was married to Daisy at the time of his death.

Leonard Allen Hale was born in Troup, Texas in 1937. He started school in Freer, Texas and attended schools in Petronila (near Bishop Texas), Lolita (near Edna, Texas), and Natches, Mississippi before graduating from High School in Snyder, Texas in 1955.
He met Mary Fawvor in Snyder in 1954 and they were married in 1956 while both were students at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. Leonard worked in the West Texas and Louisiana oil fields during the summers and, with the financial help of his and Mary's parents, completed a BS degree in Engineering Physics at Texas Tech in 1959. He taught in the Mechanical Engineering Department in 1959-60, applied for an NSF Fellowship, and completed an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering in1961. The family (four children) then moved to Austin to continue
in graduate school under NSF sponsorship.
Leonard completed a Ph D in Mechanical Engineering at UT Austin in 1964 and took a job at Lamar Tech in Beaumont as assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. After two years at Lamar and two summers in India working for USAID (Mary accompanied him on the first summer), the family moved to Bryan, Texas where he joined the ME faculty of Texas A&M University.
In 1981, after 15 years at A&M, Leonard resigned his position as tenured Professor of Mechanical Engineering and moved to Houston to become Manager of Research and Development for SII Drilco, a company in the business of producing, selling, renting and servicing tools in the oil and gas drilling industry.
In 1982 the US drilling industry entered a severe and long term depression. Leonard stayed with Drilco until 1986 when he resigned and moved to Austin as Senior Engineer (later, Director of Engineering Services) for Texas Research Institute, a small privately owned defense contractor.
In 1989 Leonard resigned at TRI and moved to Spokane, Washington to join the faculty of Gonzaga University, a small liberal arts school owned and operated by the Jesuits, as Professor of Mechanical Engineering. While working in Spokane Leonard and Mary divided their time between Spokane and Tyler, Texas where they maintained a permanent residence on Lake Tyler East.
In 1995 the University of Texas at Tyler was authorized to offer degrees in engineering. Leonard accepted the job of Dean of Engineering and joined UT Tyler in June of 1996 to manage the startup of the engineering program. In the spring of 1999 the first engineering students graduated from UT Tyler and Leonard retired.
