"A. M. Potter, 54, of Broken Arrow, apparently the victim of an automobile crash near the Tulsa County poor farm on the Broken Arrow highway early Monday, is still unconscious at St. John's hospital early today. Potter was identified by his daughter, Mrs. C. S. Cooley, living at 415 S. Guthrie, Tulsa. Mrs Cooley read of the accident in the papers early today and, as her father had not been heard from, went directly to the hospital in the belief that he might be the injured man. Potter was found by W. H. Westernbarger, Bixby, an oil field laborer employed north of Vern station, who took him to the hospital. The injured man was pinned under an overturned roadster at the time. Westernbarger also said the car looked a though it had collided with another machine as there was a deep dent in the rear and the front of the overturned car was smashed."

"Ace M. Potter, 56, of Tulsa yielded Monday night in a battle with death which he has been fighting for more than a year. Potter's death places another victim in the column for which hit-and-run drivers have been responsible. On Oct. 23, 1928, Potter was found by two Negroes on the Broken Arrow road as he lay unconscious. He was taken to Morningside hospital, where he was treated for two months for injuries which had rendered him speechless and without the use of his legs. Death was due to head injuries sustained in the accident. Potter is survived by the widow, Mrs. Julia Potter; a daughter, Mrs. C. Sterling Cooley; three sons, Harry K., Lorenza and Ace, Jr. of the home address; a brother, E. M. Potter of Leslie, Ark., and a sister, Mrs. Martha Roach of Clinton, Ark."

Harry lived in Leslie, Arkansas until he was about 6 years old. Harry loved to watch his "Uncle Zander", his father's brother, shoe horses and repair wagons. Uncle Zander would take Harry fishing when he finished his work, much to Harry's delight.
Harry moved with his family around 1913 to Harrison, Arkansas when the railroad moved the carpenter shop there. In early 1921 during the Missouri & North Arkansas Railroad Strike, fearing for the family's safety, his father moved the family to Branson, Missouri where Harry finished the 8th grade. That summer of 1921, the family then moved to Claremore, Oklahoma. Harry had to quit school to help support the family, so he and his father helped lay the first waterline from Spavanaw Lake to Tulsa. Tulsa still gets it water through this pipeline. They moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in the mid 1920's. Harry and his father, a carpenter, built bridges in Collinsville and Barnsdall, Oklahoma. Harry was most proud of the bridge he built in Barnsdall and visited it at least once or twice a year.
Later, Harry worked for a Tulsa funeral home, drove an ambulance and attended Tulsa Business College. During this time he began a career in boxing. Harry was a Golden Glove Welterweight Champion of the Southwest USA in 1932 at age 25. He became known as the "Sand Springs Kid". He also trained young men to fight in the Golden Glove Tournaments.
Harry and Ella purchased 160 acres of land, located approx 7 miles from Sand Springs, OK on the Coyote Trail, in 1940 for $1650.00 and paid for it by raising and selling pigs during the war. He added horses, cows and chickens. Even though Harry was from Arkansas, Ella showed Harry how to harness mule so he could plow the fields and plant corn to feed all these animals. He purchased a big, beautiful red horse, called him "Big Red" and often rode him ten miles to work in town just to show him off.
In 1927, Harry was employed by Sinclair Oil Company in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Sinclair finally made him quit his boxing career because they were afraid he would get hurt and become unable to work.
In January 1949 Sinclair Oil closed down and he was transferred to Cit-Con Oil Company in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In June 1949 Harry moved his family to Maplewood Community, approx 7 miles west of Lake Charles, which was built for employees of Cities Service and Cit-Con Oil Companies. This was quite an adjustment from farm life as the houses were quite close together and had no room for a garden. In 1958 Harry and Ella bought some property, built a lovely home and had enough room for a couple of horses. Harry could finally have his garden, which he planted every year up until his death.

James "Jim" Ace joined the Air Force in 1940 and served 29-1/2 years before his retirement on November 13, 1968 as a Chief Master Sergeant, at McCord Air Force Base in Oregon. He received many awards and citations for his accomplishments and was selected as the Air Defense Command's Outstanding Airman of the Year in 1960. Jim held the highest military rating an enlisted man can hold.
Jim organized an Izaak Walton League of America group at Portland Air Force Base, and served as Oregon president of the league. The August 1979 copy of "Resource Reaview/Ike" stated "Jim was a very good friend to the Oregon Wildlife Federation, having helped us on many occasions on everything from legislative matters to our two joint conventions with the Ikes. Our June '79 convention was Jim's last big project, and without a doubt he did more than anyone else to make it a success. Jim's ability to get things organized down to the last detail will be sorely missed...Jim Potter left us with something very valuable--a shining example of how we should conduct our own lives."
Jim was a 1937 graduate of Tulsa Central High School, Tulsa, OK., and a member of wrestling and baseball varsity teams.
Potter Memorial Theater, an outdoor amphi theater beside a beautiful lake in Mt. Hood, Oregon National Park, was dedicated to James A. Potter. A Large bronze plaque with raised letter reads: "THIS FACILITY IS DEDICATED TO JAMES A. POTTER, RETIRED UNITED STATES AIR FORCE, VETERAN OF THREE WARS AND SERVICE IN SEVERAL COUNTRIES. A CONSERVATIONIST, ANGLER, HUNTER, DEDICATED HUSBAND AND FATHER WHOSE LIFE, PARTICULARLY IN LATER YEARS, WAS SOLELY DEVOTED TO ADMINISTRATION AND PARTICIPATING IN PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO PROTECT OUR NATURAL RESOURCES FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS WHICH AN OFFICER AND MEMBER OF THE ISSAC WALTON LEAGUE OF AMERICA".

born between 1800 and 1810. His age is between 1766 and 1784. same as
his wife's. On the 1820 census , he's between 1775 and 1784 so I guess
that narrows the age down to 1775/1784. " Down at the point, near the
water's edge, was another log cabin where Benjamin Pounds dwelt. he
was a ferryman and carried people across the river in his boat." P. 9

Pounds is her maiden name according to Hardesty's and The Meigs TX Vol 2. Of the Pounds Families in Beaver County, there were two in 1810. Samuel Pounds who had the following Children living with him in 1810. 1 male, 4 females under 10, Himself listed in the 26-45 age range., 1 female in the 10-16 range and his wife, also in the 26-45 range. As I believe Susannah and John were married at this point, she doesn't appear. Also , Benjamin Pounds age 26-45, his wife, 26-45 and 1 other female 26-45, 3males under10 were in Beaver county.
