! pension was at first denied on the grounds that Rachel had claimed he
died from "injury to head" vs. "injury to brain". Military file No.
414,367
John Jackson filed a claim for deafness as of service origin, claim
allowed No 500,674, subsequent to his death. they rejected Rachel's
claim 11 Sep 1890 on the grounds that soldiers death resulted from
paralysis not due to deafness. the physician who treated John Jackson
stated that he complained frequently of pain in his head. Thinks the
death resulted from weakening of the blood vessels in his brain.

WV, Mason Co, Leon RFD No. 1 . "we have compromised the case by paying
Maude 200 dollars and Jennie 100.oo dollars and cared for her infant
child.
To obtain the pension Rachel had the neighbors sign a petition and also
had to have Senator Neeley intervene.

and oil rights to Thomas Fertig of Toledo OH. 8 Jan 1890. The property
described was hers as given to her by her father. Jackson Yauger. . deed

J. H. York resides in the Second District of Dyer County, and is engaged in farming. He was born in Edgecombe County, N. C., September 16, 1816, and was one of two children born to John and Mary (Walker) York. W. E. York, his younger brother, is a farmer living near Athens, Ala. His father was born in Nash County, N. C., about 1773, and he was married five times, four times in his native State: first, to Mary Bullock; second, to Mary Walker, our subject's mother; third, to Katie McDade, and fourth, to Mary Gray. He moved to Tennessee in 1824, and located in Giles County; he was a carpenter by trade, and he raised a large family of children; his last marriage was to a Mrs. Lentz. His mother was born in Edgecombe County, N. C., in 1798, and died in 1878. Our subject was raised and educated in Giles county. In 1838 he married Sarah A., daughter of B. T. and Susannah Fielder. Mrs. York was born in Caswell County, N. C., in 1818. They had three children: Mary, widow of T. H. Lanier; Elizabeth, widow of E. T. Smith, and Dr. John B., a physician, of Friendship. In 1840 Mr. York moved to Dyer county; in 1868 he moved to his present home, which consists of 456 acres of finely improved land, four miles southeast of Dyersburg. He was tax collector of Dyer County for a number of years, and was elected and re-elected to the office of magistrate until he resigned. He gave his children every educational advantage he could, and he is known as one of the progressive, public-spirited men of the county. In politics conservative, he was opposed to secession during the late war. His first presidential vote was cast for Hugh L. White. General:
William Youngblood volunteered his service in 1861 to the Confederacy and was soon elected captain. He later became the Courier of the staff of Gen James Longstreet. He served the entire war, returning in 1865 to his home, to find the former way of life gone. William had to make a living, so he went into cutting cross ties for the railroad. This business soon proved to be unprofitable. Since he was well educated, having spent two years at Furman University, SC, Greenville Co, prior to the war, was determined to make use of his education. He entered law study in the office of James G. Norman, an attorney in Union Springs. He was admitted to the bar November 9, 1867. While serving as postmaster in Union Springs, William Youngblood married, August 1, 1882, the youngest daughter of James F, Armstrong, Frances (Fannie), who had married O. R. Shaver of Pine Level, when quite young and was widowed, having no issue. Fannie was born in 1860 at the time of her mothers death. Soon after their marriage they moved from their home in Union Springs to the old homestead, the former Armstrong place, in section referred to as Bucksnort, where several of the Youngblood children were born. William and family spent time at Bucksnort and later in Birmingham, where he was in lumber business, when the city of Birmingham was quite young. He and family also spent time in Washington, D.C. on military assignment. William died in Birmingham, June 22, 1924. The Reynolds-Armstrong-Youngblood property was bought by H. B.
